The 14th Symposium between USTB & HU was held on March 7th and 8th at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, China. Including the Vice President Terao, from Faculty of Engineering, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, and Graduate School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering, 23 faculty members and students in total participated in this event. The joint symposium started on March 7th following the opening ceremony. Poster sessions were held by the students next day, on March 8th. The Best Presenter Award was given to the 2 students from each university.
Professor Il Won Seo from Seoul National University was welcomed by Faculty, Graduate School and School of Engineering on Monday, February 22nd. Dean Toyoharu NAWA and Ms Natalya SHMAKOVA, e3 program coordinator introduced Faculty of Engineering and e3 program. Prof. Yasuyuki SHIMIZU from Division of Field Engineering for the Environment joined the meeting. In a wide ranging conversation, we talked about the education system conducted in English etc. We hope this meeting will bring closer cooperation between our institutions.
7 students,who joined ‘Japan-Korea Joint Government Scholarship Program in Science and Engineering Departments’ last October, have completed their preliminary course for Bachelor’s program. The certificate of course completion was awarded from Dean Nawa to each student on Tuesday February 16th. All seven students gave a short speech in Japanese. They shared the memories of the first semester in Hokkaido University. We wish all of them the best of luck!

Two guests were welcomed by Dean Nawa, Prof. Takemi CHIKAHISA from Division of Energy and Environmental Systems, and Prof. Yukinori KOBAYASHI from Division of Human Mechanical Systems and Design. International Exchange Office member, Director Prof Toshifumi gave a introduction of Hokkaido University. Specially-appointed Professor Toru YAMASHITA from CEED explained our internship program. Two guests: Mr. Ivica Kolaric, Head of Business Unit Automotive, Head of Department Functional Materials, Head of Fraunhofer OPER and Mr. Carsten Glanz, Group Leader Application of functional materials made a courtesy visit to Dean Nawa on Monday, January 25th. Prof. Toshifumi IGARASHI Director at International Exchange Office and Specially-appointed Prof. Toru YAMASHITA, CEED gave short presentations about Faculty of Engineering and internship program. Mr. Kolaric also also gave us a short presentation about the activities of Fraunhofer. We had an exciting discussion about future academic exchange.
