Assoc.Dean Prof. Jaewon Chung and 9 administrative staff from the College of Engineering, Korea University visited the Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University on Friday June 23. Prof. Yukinori Kobayashi (Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering) welcomed the delegation. After the courtesy visit, the group went to a campus tour with two Korean students who currently studying in Graduate School of Engineering, Jihee Kim (Master’s course student) and Yongho Chung (Doctoral course Student).
Four delegation members from Hokkaido Univeristy made a courtesy visit to the President of KAIST, Prof. Sung-Chul SHIN on Monday, March 20. The members are Prof. Toyoharu NAWA, Dean, Faculty of Engineerng, Prof. Yukinori KOBAYASHI, Vice Dean, Faculty of Engineerng, Mr. Toshiyasu SUGIYAMA, Director, International Affairs Office of Engineering, and Prof. Joo Young CHA, Director of Hokkaido University Seoul Office. Hokkaido University concluded the University-level exchange agreement with KAIST in 2016. During the visit, the delegation members discussed student exchange and reserach collaboration as well as Nitobe College. Along with the talk, they were invited to the research facilities in the field of robotics.
7 students from South Korea, who joined “Japan-Korea Joint Government Scholarship Program in Science and Engineering Departments” last October, have completed their preliminary course for Bachelor’s program. The certificate of course completion was awarded by Dean Nawa to each student on Thursday, February 16th 2017. All seven students gave a short speech in Japanese and shared their ambitions for the coming academic year. We wish all of them the best of luck!

Professor Il Won Seo from Seoul National University was welcomed by Faculty, Graduate School and School of Engineering on Monday, February 22nd. Dean Toyoharu NAWA and Ms Natalya SHMAKOVA, e3 program coordinator introduced Faculty of Engineering and e3 program. Prof. Yasuyuki SHIMIZU from Division of Field Engineering for the Environment joined the meeting. In a wide ranging conversation, we talked about the education system conducted in English etc. We hope this meeting will bring closer cooperation between our institutions.

Prof. Taihyun CHANG, Vice President of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), South Korea made a courtesy visit to Dean Nawa. Prof Toyoji KAKUCHI and Assoc. Prof. Shinichiro SATO from the laboratory of polymer functional chemistry also joined the talk. Introduction of Hokkaido University was given by Dean Nawa. Faculty, Graduate School, and School of Engineering are hoping for future academic exchanges with POSTECH.

On March-like warm days in January 2015, 10 energetic students and 2 faculty members from Incheon National University, South Korea visited Hokkaido University. The visitors were greeted by Dean Nawa and other faculty members in engineering as Dir. Igarashi at International Exchange Office and Prof Yamashita from CEED, and then toured around Office of International Affairs, Suzuki Hall, Research Centre for Integrated Quantum Electronics, Lab. of High-Voltage Electron Microscope and University Museum. The INU students were well-prepared to communicate with local students, and enjoyed cultural exchange via presentation and casual talk with both Korean and Japanese students at HU.
