Three guests from Macquarie University, Australia visited our faculties on Wednesday, November 16. This visit was to conclude the academic exchange agreement between Faculty of Science and Engineering, Macquarie University, and Graduate School and School of Engineering, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, and Graduate School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering, Hokkaido University. The agreement was signed by four Deans: Executive Dean Messerle, Dean Nawa, Dean Miyanaga, and Dean Ohkuma. Prof Seth Kunin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor International from Curtin University, visited Faculty, Graduate School, and School of Engineering on Friday, October 28th. Prof.Kunin visited the Institute for International Collaboration (IIC) and was welcomed by Prof Ichiro UYEDA, Executive Director. Following the courtesy visit, Dean Nawa, Prof Taichiro OKAZAKI, a member of International Exchange Office, and other faculty members in the Division of Sustainable Resources Engineering welcomed the visitor and discussed further cooperation on student exchange between the universities. Faculty of Science and Engineering concluded MOU between Curtin University in 2014, and has been partner universities since then.We are looking forward to promoting further exchanges in future.

Mr. Toshiyasu SUGIYAMA, Director of IAOE, and his colleague Mr. Tomokazu MIYATA introduced Hokkaido University in the beginning. e³ introduction was given by Ms Natalya SHMAKOVA, e³ program coordinator at Faculty of Engineering . CEED and its unique internship programs were explained by the Specially-appointed Prof. Toru YAMASHITA. Mr. Morrison was especially interested in our internship programs. A former President of the University of Melbourne, Prof Geoff Stevens made a courtesy call on Dean Nawa on Monday, February 16. As Hokkaido University has been adopted by”MEXT TOP Global University Project” since last September, this visit was arranged as a part of “Top-Collaboration Project” to discuss future education and research. Upon a courtesy visit, overviews of Faculty of Engineering and e³programme were presented. In addition, discussion regarding future collaboration of education and research was held between the two universities.

On 16 October 2014, there were several faculty members from Curtin University, Australia: Prof Ernesto VILLAESCUSA, Dr Mostafa SHARIFZADEH, Dr Mahinda KURUPPU and Dr Youhei KAWAMURA. Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University has concluded a departmental academic exchange agreement with them since late August this year, and their visit was the first visit after the agreement conclusion. The visitors were welcomed by Prof Toshifumi IGARASHI Director at International Exchange Office and other faculty members in mining, mineral processing and resources recycling, and rock mechanics – ones of the strong fields at Curtin Univ. The very first visitor of July 2014 here was Ms Anne Houston, Senior International Project Officer at Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE). ATSE is an independent and non-governmental organisation which promotes the development and adoption of existing and new technologies and has been highly regarded for the achivement of their 800 local fellows. They cover the field of health, agriculture, inflastructure, education, energy – and natural resources (mineral and water) which are obviously the strength of that country. That country of freedom and natural beauty has various linkages with Japan via tourism, education, research and business. Faculty of Engineering received a visit from Queensland University of Technology (QUT, Australia) on 9 April. QUT and 3 engineering related graduate schools of HU signed the MoU on research internship in July 2012. 3 guests from QUT, Ms. Annie Liu (Director, International Engagement & Development Science & Engineering Faculty), Mr. Bernard Murchison (International Partnerships and Mobility Manager, Science and Engineering Faculty), and Associate Professor Richard Brown visited Dean Baba, Prof. Kakuchi, Prof. Kurihara, Prof. Chikahisa, and Prof. Ogawa to discuss enhancement of the exchange. The guests also met with 10 students who are interested in coming to QUT for exchange research program.
