’14 Tug-of-War Tournament

Tug of war tournament in Engineering, Hokkaido University, seems to be one of wintry symbolic events now.  This annually-held event is held in the middle of January, one of the coldest months in Hokkaido.

The members of two teams line from both ends of a rope in approximately 30 meters long, and pull the rope towards each end.   In this season, the icy ground covered with feather-light snow is truly slippery.  Some enthusiastic players even wear wellington boots and tie a thin rope around each boot for slip resistance.

The matches were held at every lunchtime from 23 to 29 January, in front of the Engineering Building.
