Q1             When is the possible admission time for School/Graduate School of Engg.?

International students can start their undergraduate study in every April, and graduate study either in April/October.  The graduate candidates who are qualified for entrance exam exemption start their study in October normally.

 

Q2             When is the entrance exam and application period for undergraduate courses?  What is the minimum score of Japanese language proficiency and other tests to enter undergraduate courses taught in Japanese in School of Engg.?

Brief schedule for undergraduate application is the following:

October – the release of application guideline at HU

December/January – application period for HU

February – document screening result announcement and interview

March – announcement of successful candidates

April – admission

 

The transcript(s) of the last school(s), English test* score sheet and the result of The Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students held by JASSO is used as the 1st stage of the entrance exam at HU, document screening.

The minimum required scores are over 270 in ‘Japanese as a Foreign Language’ and over 265 in the total of ‘Science’ and ‘Mathematics’ in EJU.

EJU is held twice a year in June and November, and the application deadline is normally early March and July.

Q3             When is the entrance exam for graduate courses and the application period/deadline scheduled?

ENTRANCE EXAM

August for October admission & February for April admission

APPLICATION PERIOD

The 1st week of July for October entrants & the 3rd week of January for April entrants

*This should be confirmed on the website/enquiry e-mail annually.

PRELIMINARY SCREENING

Mid-June for October entry & early-Dec for April entry

*Candidates from foreign universities need to get registered for preliminary screening for the eligibility.  English Engineering Education (e3) programme sets the different deadlines as 31 May for October entry and 15 November for April entry for the preliminary screening.

 

Q4             Academic calendar

The 1st term is from April to September, and the 2nd term is from October to March.  Most of international students in graduate level start their academic year from October and end in September.

 

Q5             Latest record of exchange students

In FY 2014, 7 engineering students have been dispatched as the following: 2 to Harbin Inst. of Tech. (China), 2 to Univ. of Sheffield (U.K.), 1 to Univ. of Oulu (Finland), 1 to Universitas Gadjah Mada (Indonesia) and 1 to Hanyang Univ. (South Korea).

On the other hand, we have received 66 students in these two years as the following.

FY 2014: 4 Chinese, 4 Indonesian, 3 Thai, 2 Spanish and 1 Taiwanese

FY 2013: 18 Chinese, 10 Brazilian, 6 Thai, 5 German, 3 French, 3 Korean, 1 Australian, 1 Finnish, 1 Hungarian, 1 Italian, 1 Kazakh, 1 Nigerian and 1 Russian

 

Q6            What are the graduation requirements for School/Graduate School of Engg.?

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

Attending 4 years study at School of Engineering, and earning over 46 credits in General Education Curriculum and 80-84 credits in Specialised Curriculum

*Required credits in Specialised Curriculum depend on course.

MASTER’S PROGRAMME

Attending 2 years at Graduate School of Engineering, earning over 30 credits, conducting research under supervision and passing the review and defence for graduation thesis

DOCTORAL PROGRAMME

Attending 3 years at Graduate School of Engineering (in doctoral level), earning over 10 credits, conducting research under supervision and passing the review, exam and defence for graduation thesis

    What are the qualifications in order for a graduate student wishing to enroll for a Ph.D. program be exempted from an entrance examination? And if an exam has to be taken, who will we ask about the coverage or the subject matter included in the exam?
